This series is about the precariousness of safety and the illusions we create about the places we take shelter. How safe are we really in the place we call home? Walls can feel sturdy and protective but can also crumble in an instant. The people we dwell with can be our emotional havens or our toxic enemies. We can also find perfect comfort in unexpected corners of a home, or places that don’t at first seem welcoming or solid.
For this work, I shot photographs of a family member’s current home using a 35mm manual camera and color film. To assemble each collage, I worked with foil and tissue paper, playing with the sturdiness and delicateness of both materials. All the imagery I use explores window and door openings, as these are portals for us to both enter into safety or escape as needed.
Ships within 3-7 business days (does not include a mat or frame).
