Cardboard Box is an original mixed media painting by Philadelphia artist Libby Saylor built from layered fragments of paint and construction paper — warm sand, raw umber, deep cobalt, and soft aqua composed into an architectural abstraction that is at once grounded and expansive. Set against an open field of white, the stacked forms create a sense of quiet vastness, as if coastline, sea, and sky have been gathered, torn, and held still. A bold, one-of-a-kind statement piece, Cardboard Box brings material richness and landscape-driven presence to any curated interior — ideal for designers seeking art that anchors a room without overpowering it.

Sourced from Libby's own 35mm film photography shot on a manual camera, Cardboard Box begins with a found object — a cardboard box photographed as part of an ongoing series capturing everyday things in the ordinary world. That analog image became the quiet, textural foundation of the piece, transformed through layered mixed media into something entirely new. Intuitively assembled on 120 lb Legion Stonehenge Paper, the work traces the quiet alchemy of turning the unremarkable into the unforgettable.
